help with my last one please. 40a) University scheme,initially dumbed down(6) I have ? P?A?D . Upward? Upland? I can't parse it.

ThanK you Chrisie! It seems obvious now.

I had a spot of trouble parsing this one too.

I got the U PLAN D easily enough but couldn't quite reconcile it with down (as opposed to up) for a couple of minutes until it clicked.

Living in a bit of a valley at almost a thousand feet up in the Peak District, it is difficult for me to view The Downs as anything other than a minor undulation in the landscape.
