I had never heard of "penates", so I have learned something new...... yes, I understand the parsing.
But in 12a I was stretched to accept "use" for "work"....but I have now found it my Collins paperback Thesaurus!

Yes, Ara did well......such a shame though to lose £32,000, but at least he was sensible and set himself a safety net reasonably early on.

Rusty, I don't think there's much parsing to the 'money' clue, just one of those where the whole clue provides the answer. I liked the fun element of it, just a bit silly!

Phew, it's hot!
We all had a nice afternoon, playing games with the two boys.
We even got three-year -old YB to sit down quietly for a spell, and play "Snakes and Ladders".
He did well, counting his squares for himself, and moving his counter.
We all had dinner together, and then the rest of the family went home, leaving BB with us.
We played an anagram game on his tablet, for a while - his spelling is excellent! - and then he had a bath.
He is just reading in bed for half an hour before it's "lights out"!
