34a:Stones in obstruction that keeps eccentric folk outside. I have N-T-E-S. Logic says nutters but I cannot parse it. Any views please.

Looking at the clue, could it be NUTLETS?

Let = obstruction
Nuts = eccentric folk (outside)
Nutlets = small stones.

Thanks-yes get it now. By the way Chris Barber is 85 tomorrow. What an achievement and no knighthood! Saw him two weeks ago and still going like cerazy!

He is amazing for his age. One of my teenage idols :)

Just a thought about the knighthood: we never know these things but perhaps Barber has been offered an honour of some sort and refused it.

Chris was awarded the OBE in 1991 :)
