After a gargantuan struggle have finally managed to finish but would appreciate assistance in fully parsing
these:-
24Ac - "From chair lifted needles people carelessly
dropping" (LITTERBUGS)
23 D - "Good news from clinic about schoolboy no
longer covered up" (OBSCURED)
46 D - "Director was evidently not entirely successful
in pit negotiations" (FELLINI)

24 A. A Litter is a kind of chair, carried by two people, I think. Bugs = needles/annoys.

Many thanks Malone and Elle! I fully see those two now but will scratch my head a little longer about Federico

The 'pit' could have been a 'hole' a'ditch' or similar , he failed to negotiate it and fell in it.

Yes, that clue seems a little weak to me. What a film

They don't - the pit is simply part of the wordplay.
