I have the answer Wrench for 'Architect gave companion spanner' but I dont get it! If this is correct the first letter to the newspaper clue is C.

shoelaces - cords simple really (but not to me!)

When you're on this site you need to first say the name of the paper and the no. of crossword, it's no good to all of us if we don't have it in front of us, we just can't tell you the answer...
