First crossword for a while, and I'm stuck. There are several references to "our speaker" that I'm confused by. For instance 1d

I think it must be MATTHEWS. Could anyone explain the "speaker" part, please?

Actually, I think I see that one now - it refers to the long quotation.

Still don't see the others, though!

and 7d ties in with that answer
