Is it just me, or is this the most difficult for many weeks? Have completed top right-hand corner, and a few others. Can anyone give me a hint with 1a, Book with one horrible gap upset literary cataloguer. (13) All I can think of is bibliographer but this doesn't seem to fit with the down clues.

It looks good. Bibliographer is an anagram of b - Book+ i (one)+ horrible gap?

Thanks for that, can't understand why I did not spot the anagram! Feeling rather stupid...

Monty,

You're right : it's quite beastly!

I have only managed 15 so far, mostly, like yours, on the right. Perhaps the answer to 1A as provided will help.

In my defence it's been a very traumatic day involving an ambulance, but I still think this one is very difficult

Having trouble parsing these, help appreciated....

16a. Article about Northern English in spring, bingeing - INTEMPERANCE (Bingeing)

7d. Unrefined, even if under cape (5) - RUDE?

22d. Dip or rise of a month, more or less a blemish 9) - GUACAMOLE (Dip)

I can see 'A blemish' is A MOLE but not the rest.

7 The 'c' from Cape would have given Crude, also unrefined.

22 Aug is August, reversed because clue says 'rise', so Gua+ca is circa/around/more or less. You end up with Gua ca mole.

Sorry, there was one more...

48d. German sustained musically, making note lowest (6) - TEUTON (German) would fit the def. but, again, I can't parse it.
