Can anybody confirm the answer at 17a as EUSCARA?
The clue is Basques in revolutionary cause(CAUSE)
about autonomous region (AR)(7)
Chambers defines the word as EUSKARA Google gives
alternative with the C spelling,but I remain to be
convinced.

I had the same doubts as you, as Chambers gave the "k". However, it's the only word that fits - all other letters cross, except the "s" And the wordplay fits - AR is autonomous region, and the anagram of "cause" is around it.
