I've finished it but three fairly obvious answers are difficult to work out:

14A Reporter's second witness quiet about hot tip from Egypt. (8). Seems to be Baksheesh?

25A Hum discordant note, one interrupting Cliff Richard's opening song. (11,4). Scarborough Fair?

26A Old local official respecting vigil. (5). Reeve?

Any thoughts?

BAK sounds like "back" or "second" see about Hot, then sh (quiet)
25 was explained in detail on an earlier thread

RE respecting, EVE - vigil (as in "St. Agnes Eve")

Thanks, Chrise. I missed the earlier thread. I assume that 16A. was finally resolved ( Look as a noun from Dr and Eco?)

Sorry cymro - no longer have the crossword (binned, not sent!) Could you remind of the clue for 16a?
