Nice puzzle today with some very clever clues for a change!

There's a error, though - 6d should be "example", not "examples" (I checked in Chambers).

Guess that eliminates my guess which was REALIA since that's plural. Other just guess: 5d. Useless, 15, consumed with vice. ??E???C?I?E. I guess ineffective but don't see why it would be. Then I can't get 7d. Check long note coming from one I serve. ??H ???N. Any help will be welcome

5 read 15 as a word rather than a number
