From the earlier replies I can see answers for four crosses but the solution is only four letters, so I'm still searching. I have also picked up the possiblity of Blyth being the answer for 62.
48. Mail on Sunday Political observer is also still alluding me.

28 I had Hale at first but Laga a village in Scotland on the coast seems to fit the bill better

The battle took place on 10 Aug 951, and is apparently celebrated every year
