The answer to 3d. is TERRIFIC but I don't know if that is the 3 referred to in the clue.

All I can see is ...
Rewrite the clue as ' A white van is terrific houses up' and you'll find 'retsina' in ('housed') and 'up' is reversed in the sentence. vANISTERiff,,,
