I have PLAIN as the answer to this clue. i.e. SCHEME = PLAN ITALIAN = I

The only thing I can think of is

PLAIN & NATURAL = SIMPLE
TON = FASHION = SIMPLETON

I can't personnaly see what "ton" has to do with fashion. But I can't offer anyhing myself. I've tried but must admit I'm stumped. I take it you've got all the intersecting letters and are sure of them.
