I must be really slow this week I can't seem to see these ones:

9a How the fish did falter in the end. (10)

4d Head of 11? Top Dog (4)
- - - S (Answer to 11 is Hurley)

14d God-sent lamb, so she is. (5)
A - N - S

second one is Agnes

14D might be AGNES although I don't like the wordplay much

...sorry that should be 3rd answer

4D might be HUSS which is a dogfish. Again I don't like the wordplay much.

The first answer is floudered; the third is AGNUS
- as in 'Agnus Dei' [the Lamb of God]. I believe that the second is BOSS - the thickened part of the shaft which begs the question "Are you in Ireland?" If so, we are talking about a hurley stick aren't we?

The answer BOSS is correct: "The 'grip' is at the opposite end of the hurley to the ..."

Lost the word boss somehow! It was there the last time I looked...

chrisg, John (from Arran) and Caravaggio thank you so much it all nearly makes sense now. I know what you mean about the wordplay.
