Been having a pop at last week's Jumbo and am currently stumped on these:-
26A "Bender of beams and extremely large poles"
-E-S (4 letters)
39A "Engineer's argument against stand that's
three feet short"
-O-T-I-E (8 letters)
Any kind soul able to offer assistance?

A lens is a bender of beams.

Lens and contrive (trivet without the t)

extremely LargE with poles (NS) Lens
