No, still not it unfortunately.

I have a theory that Earth means ground. So an answer might be something like ???????? Circuit.

That is a theory however, and is most likely incorrect. This clue is supposed to be cryptic, its not straight forward.

No, i don't actually. Its a quiz question set out in the form of a cryptic crossword. You guys are my last hope ; ;

It could be as 'Electric Circuit' I suppose. Seems a bit vague for the clue but I'm thinking 'exaggerated opening' could be the 'c', 'u' and 't' from 'circuit'.
