The answer to this might be sheepdog trials or something like it.

Olympic archery competitions are called 'Archery Trials', for example.

But ...I didn't think that a sheepdog = gun-dog.

are you sure of the number of letters or should it be 6, 8 ie golden labrador

I thought of Shooting Ranges...which is a sport venue and a gun dog could be shooting I suppose..bit vague though

I was playing with "greyhound racing", but -wrong number of letters; you've got hound in the middle, and somehow, almost an anagram of archery. I wondered if it was the same xword as Zed's other thread, as they seemed very poor clue. Any thoughts?

just checked no. of letters and though it says 8,6 in the clues, there are actually 15 boxes so
i am thinking greyhound racing could be on the right track.
