Could this be ROOSTED?

ROOTED + S (son)

Could the ROOTED refer to deep-rooted, as of feelings, and that is where the "felt deeply" would come in (even though you wouldn't ever say "rooted" feelings?)

I have another one to do and the answer to this will give me the final letter of that one. So I must have it right.

Chambers: roost - to settle or sleep on a roost or perch.

Aljanon - thanks. Yes, the ROOST = settle is fine. It was the "felt deeply" that I was a bit antsy about.

My next one is this:

Using the R from ROOSTED:

- N - E - - - R

Maybe INJECTOR? HECTOR pronounced 'ECTOR.

I am almost finished now, except I have a couple of niggling doubts about this across clue:

Knock back pounds in ice cream, all together (2, 4)

- N / - (y) - C.

I have IN SYNC

I and C = ice cream

But am not certain of the Y which depends on another answer being right.

And where do pounds being knocked back come in? (NYSN are the letters in reverse - leaving out the IC for ice cream)

I think the answer may be en bloc = 'lb'/pound inside 'cone'/ice cream ... all backwards.
