Actually, "time immemorial" has a specific meaning in English law. It means "before the accession of Richard I in 1189. It was established under the reign on Edward I in 1275 that anyone who could prove that they held land before this date was entitled to retain the title to the land; if they couldn't show this, they had to prove the entitlement otherwise (I think!)
