assistance. 12a Pleasing to see writing by true
writer! (8) H???S???
8d Blow brings warmth after brief lull(8)??????T?
Any thoughts anybody?

I think 12A is HANDSOME. No idea on the other one yet.

The other one is RECHEATS which is the action of blowing a bugle to recall the hounds in a hunt.

REC (short for recreation) + HEATS

You are right with HANDSOME,but I think 8d is
CALAMITY,i.e. brief lull CAL(m) AMITY=warmth.
5a is GAMECOCK,any ideas on 6d.US authority
opposed to blocking name change.
