What a dog of a puzzle (no offence to dogs). The point of a good cryptic is to feel a sense of achievement and a satisfying "clunk' when the answer is discerned., and the parsing is clear. Rarely forthcoming here. With this one it is more like taking a long walk through the labyrinthine tortured mental processes of the setters mind. Too much acid in the 60"s.? Could he/she please get back to their day job?

Anyway thanks to the copious earlier offerings I have (amazingly) finished apart from one

44d Plague set about that French city (7) B?Y?N?E

Can only see Beyonce. If so, eh?

It"s probably obvious but my brain has turned to mush
Thank you for your indulgence in advance.

This was my second ever attempt at "times jumbo cryptic" I enjoyed last weeks offering, a few hours of thinking. This week, well, I hope it's not a sign of things to come. With help from this forum I made a start and finally finished. Is "naafi" actually a word or an acronym? Maybe the clue should have ended with (1,1,1,1,1).
ps: yeah Paul Beyonce probably fits the definition of plague.

Thanks Mamya.
I'd only ever heard it as a derogatory term (without the "i" at the end) on English tv shows. We live and learn!
Hope I haven't come across as a "noob".

DISC = recording
1P = minimal charge (since we don't have halfpennies any more
LINE = cover inside (i.e. add a lining)
