Thanks SDL
I hadn't spotted T for TEMPO.
I'm still not really happy with the other one = "rotate" the letters and you get ROTHF, OTHFR etc. I don't think swapping the position of two of the letters can be described as "rotation"....
....and anyway FROTH isn't really "sea foam"!

5/29 -- this looks like a straight anagram, except the fodder produces gibberish. Is there something else to it? The checking letters suggest a slang term that could vaguely work, but not as an anagram.

Also, the checking letters to 7d permit a vast number of possible solutions, but none of which can I match to the clue.

The answer to 7d is simply hidden in the clue!
5,29 is indeed an anagram: you need the old shipping forecast map (in the east)

Thanks. I'd googled the second word (among other possibilities) but somehow missed the forecast rea.

4d - "Area of sea said to be modest source of fish". I have F-E-O-S. Is it FOETORS? If so, why?

Have you spotted that there are lots of shipping forecast areas? One of them could be said to sound vaguely like a reasonable lot of fish eggs.

Thanks for the hint, Chrise. Unfortunately, the shipping forecast isn't prominently published on my side of the Atlantic.

For 7d "It goes into the sea with a message inside" (6)
I've got T-A-E-
I'm assuming its THAMES but is AM really "a message"?

Any help welcomed
