19d Son protected by decent old magician (8)

I have: - E - S - E - O

I thought it was an anagram of DECENT + S (for son) + O (for old) but I can't find a likely answer.

It doesn't look as though anyone else had problems with it, so I must have something wrong.

I had 24a wrong. (Page enters to approach Queen as an equal). I had the right letters but not in the right order.

I'd put Compere and it should have been Compeer (not a word I'm familiar with!).
