Centre right was where I finished too, and two of the across ones are little more than guesses (I think the down one is right, though).

A little hint, chris: if I am not mistaken, 43a uses an ingenious trick found in another clue,too!

My guesses were 43ac and 58ac. 43 may well be right, but I would be surprised if 58 was. There are lot of words that fit the pattern I have!

My answer plays on the word "gag". Les would be laughing if he knew: there are indeed many words that fit the crossers! Maybe I'm wrong....................
