Brendan, the euphemism is using 'Darned' instead of 'Damned' (as in 'Well, I'll be...')

The Bowler is a Bowler hat that would go on the whatnot ( a stand with shelves)

OK, to wrap up.....

I have a horse, tail at the rear docked - TIPSTER? If 'Rear' is STER(n) -'Tail Docked' where does 'Tip' come from?

Like old TV stories on the box, around for all to see - ANALOGUE Why 'Stories on the box'?

Analogue sounds like annal log (both of which are words for a story) but I don't know where 'the box' fits in!

Tip can be synonymous with tail, according to Bradford's. In Chambers, a definition of 'tip' is 'a small piece forming an end, the furthest part' - and that seems to fit 'tail' perfectly.
