I have the quotation but cannot see the connection
with the unclued lights.
As far as I can see 23a can only be the name of a bird
and it doesn't suggest any link to the quote.

A heavy hint would be very welcome.

You have to 3rd word of the quotation 2nd word of the quotation in the unclued answers. Your bird is correct - but the word contains something (a.../5th word of quotation).
Let me know if this is too cryptic!

With Malone's help I've sorted this out but I'm missing a couple. 3dn ?ie?o - piezo - if so, why? and 40ac ?ir?a - couple of options but can't parse either. Help please.
