Numbers in brackets give the number of cells in the entry. In some answers which are one letter longer than the available space, two letters must be entered in one cell. Some other clues contain misprints of one letter in the definition.

18 A. Score hard boards extremely softly (4)
???p
35 A. Visually rich, retiring guards glare (7)
??s?ur?
(Not 100% sure of the 's').
Thanks for any help.

Thanks very much - I've not been doing very well with this, maybe this will give me a little push.

You're welcome.
The other eludes me. Tried P??P (extremely softly).
Assume there's a misprint elsewhere, Maybe PP in is the middle, & there are 5 letters.
Lots of possibilities. Good luck.

18A answer is SHOP, the misprint should be 'store'.
H for hard is taken aboard SO and P.

Nelson, thanks - I'd been trying out 'shore', 'scorn', 'scare' etc and missed 'store' altogether.

For 14D I have W as the third letter, but I can't get the first letter of 13A.

I'm struggling - and am still way behind you. I don't have an answer to 14 D, but Bradford's (solver's dictionary) has Homeric listed under 'question'.
