Hi I'm slowly getting this puzzle finished. Just two to go. But, very stuck. As soldiers may be, touring north in the dark? (10) I have __N__N__ __ __ __ __ D. This is not making any sense to me. Your help is gratefully appreciated.

How do you recognise soldiers from the same army (what are they wearing)? This forms a major part of the answer.
