Thanks Jazzgirl, I've got them now. I think. I dread to think what clues might have been used for 24a.

You've helped (a little!) with 24a Jazzie, but I'm not doing very well at all. (Convinced there's a new compiler out to get me..!) I'm stuck on 2d 17d 20a 1d ..! In fact I'm up the creek without a paddle..! In this heat too..(PHEW..!) I blame the weather..! Surely NOT my advancing years..?! :

Hi raymond
2d is a political party (not English)
17d is another name for an aardvark
20a a short word for a tiny piece, then a farm building, give a seaside resort
1d A in a foreign language, then a 4-letter film (from the 60s), then a word for complete unfinished. Def. obstructive

Hi raymond
The party is considerably closer to England than that.
19d read the clue very carefully
7a is a "sounds like" - do you know Gray's Elegy?

Oh dear chrise,
Ashamed of myself (look-you)..! (I'm sure this compiler wears a daffodil or leek on 1st March.) Don't think I'd have thought of 'Gray' without your help. Many thanks...R

Jazzgirl. Thanks for solving my last week`s missing link in the other thread for this weeks puzzle all about the Greek character going to bed with cakes!!

Meantime this week am stuck on that children`s programme. Have read the hints but still cannot get it!

Yes, I do seem to be keeping well - melting somewhat and trying to stay indoors. But not complaining. Kept busy painting (pictures not walls). The garden is ok so far. My wild flower meadow seems to have an abundance of red campion, I think it is called. The poppies and the cornflower have not fared so well. I hope Mr Pipsmoker is keeping well these days and of course yourself.
