Still struggling with bottom right corner....
28a With bishop on board, is allowed to tie the knot (5) M---Y.
'Is allowed' could be MAY, and i do not see how the bishop bit fits in. I am tempted by MARRY='tie the knot' but is that a red herring?

MARRY; RR = bishop; may = is allowed

I am also stuck with 23d I hear you mounted resistance, like other ranks (5) R-G--.

Why is RR=bishop?
