Don't quite get the parsing of the rte crossword clue - I get the Italian 'Ciao' meaning chow. But the rest? Enlighten please O' wise one :)

Sorry - that should have read 'ciao' sounding like 'chow' :)

RE I did put a ? after my answer as I was not 100% sure. Chow means food and chow mein is a supposedly Chinese dish. I assume the going down bit referred to a down clue.
Maybe someone much wiser out there knows better.
