2. Barber ?

I've just found it in the Chambers 21st Century online. I must get up-dated

Welcome also Ari (4/5 and sweltering in a suitable heat - I've already purchased my asbestos suit for when I kick the bucket), RE, Jazzy and Les40 (sorry about 'barber'). #2 is a cryptic "double". One cryptic bit and one straight dictionary definition. The earlier part of the clue is the cryptic bit. A bit unfair? NEVER! I have to live up to the various "titles" given me today :))

Like Ari I got all except no 2. I am probably reading too
much into the ? Jolan added to the end of the clue,

I realise it probably indicates the possibility of misdirection, which of course Jolan would never dream of indulging in!

Back to the drawing board.

I thought it might be a double definition, even wondered if you use master in some other way over there.

So here I am, back after mowing the lawn in sweltering heat, and where is Jolan? Checking in somewhere in his asbestos suit? Been trying to think of another name for a bread-and-butter letter, with no success.

Well, there's Collins, but that obviously doesn't work..

Good for you RE. I'm glad you posted that. I now feel justified in the clue. You actually got it. Just didn't follow up. Hope you are improving, health-wise.
