To be more specific, take H (hot) out of apprehends, then anagram the remainder to give pages in a book (ones that most people wouldn't read)

Eventually I got PIONEER for scout, for a long time completely missing the fact that it was in the words of the clue and had nothing to do with a tent or tipi.
