Still think it's I'll at ease from the clue contaimg the word better, opposite of ill and attention and at ease "opposite" commands.

'put at ease' seems a much better fit to the clue.
does noise rhyme with the answer to clue #20?

Aside, Ginge and Trevor - Thanks to all of you. Sorry to disappoint but it really can't be Put at ease, has to be Ill at ease. The "L" is definitely correct, and the word that it comes from - Salient - fits in with three other words.

apologies ginge, if you feel ill when 'at ease' you would obviously feel better when called to attention.
i'm on strong medication at the mo, feels great. :)

No problem Trevor, I know myself it's difficult to look at a clue fresh when an idea has first formulated especially if you aren't actually looking at the puzzle. Alls well etc, etc

"Evening" Les, it would but I'm pretty sure ill is correct. I hope my previous post didn't confuse you, it was just short for "alls well that ends well".

Gotcha,

If you were called to attention, you would no longer be 'at ease' and if you would feel BETTER in this position then you must have felt WORSE 'at ease' thus you would have been 'ill at ease' becoming (the opposite 'well at attention'

It makes sense now (I think)
