Desperately in need of help - compltely stuck.

Vine removed by playgoer (5 & 3) G???? P??

Having many small openings, Virginia first found it was insubstantial (8) V???????

Short and stout belt almost broken durring quarrel (8) ?????B?? Could it be sqabble? if so why?

Virginia is VA.

Having many small openings - POROUS.

Hence VAPOROUS - Insubstantial.
