I found some tricky ones today.
24ac Turf that a golfer should replace. Quarter = 4 then 4 to the Romans.
9dn is an anagram which gives an animal as an answer. Enough said?
(But I think others have raced me for the answers.)

Thank you, GK. I had `ing` at the end of 11ac; now changed is to `ism`. Mags

Magworth - I believe 11A ends in ist - the person who attends to feet. Help please on 16a *e*u*** "tree ring thrown nearly into water" & 14D ***e*t*o* "gripped by speech about course"

Hi Devonian. Agree with you about foot person. 16a a big Canadian tree made from endless (nearly) ring you throw at a fair in salt water.
14d. Abbreviation for about gripped by word for speech makes a "course" of action.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Cantersue - all is now clear. I never knew that 21D was a name for a shoemaker - must have missed that somewhere in my education !

Hi. My Mum always used that word when she took shoes to be mended, but I haven't heard it for years.
