Can any solvers tell me if I have the correct letters for the first word in the first column, please?
I have ?A?D??A?
I can't find a word that fits either of the 8 letter clues that could go in there.
For anyone interested who doesn't have the crossword, the clues (with a misprint in the definition) are:
Gambia's open river (8)
and
Slobbish learner finished in ditch, upside-down (8)

Almost all done now, except one letter. Will try to work it out by myself before asking for more help.

Can anyone give me an idea about how to make the final rearrangement of letters?

Do you mean the final change to the phrase in the grid, unclued? If so, the bottom line needs to be changed in accordance with the word from the corrected letters and the phrase it is an anagram of.

Thanks Jo but I'm still confused. I have the two phrases from the misprints and the relevant words from first, fifth and bottom lines (5,7,4,2 1,11). I assume you have to make anagrams of the grid words but I can't get that to work. Please help further!

unclued, you just swap name in bottom row for the other name ( 2 words) leaving all proper words
