But what is the significance of "solo" in the clue to 18ac?

I don`t yet know whether to believe Wally when he says it was quite easy this week . I have only just bought my copy of RT. However last week took me ages with a little help from those who posted for No 22. I may look in again later when I am stuck.

I didn't get around to looking at it until last evening, but finally finished it. I had not heard of the alternative name for the plant at 24a.

Temporarily (I hope) stalled in NW corner, but can anyone answer me this? I was dubious about the definition in 12ac

- but it was in fact given first in Chambers. How did the more apposite second definition (referring to voting rights) come to have the first meaning?
