4dn Mighty important person's gone without wife (6)
I have POTE?T making it look like odds-on 'Potent'. I cannot factor in 'gone without wife'. Any suggestions?

Without W(ife) = ent

Thanks ginge. I was unaware of that meaning of 'pot' (important person). For not seeing 'went' without 'w'... well I should be ... :-)
