Hi Mary, I think your keyboard is sticking! If you have entered any across clues at all you must have gathered at least one of the two ways in which entries must be modified. The two clues that you quote 14a and 16a are in fact one of each - they both need something removing before entry, a letter in one case and a word in the other. 22d is a Spoonerism meaning the wordplay will lead to the answer with the first letters switched, so if the entry was 'maypole' the wordplay might lead to 'pay mole'. I deliberately haven't given the answers but say so if you want them.
