Can anyone explain where the second 3-letter phrase appears in the grid that is mentioned in the instructions for the unclued ones? I can see only one (at 21d); the rest are all either one or two words. Doc's error?

artist = RA,
without honour = (ch)ARITY
the A is the problem.

Could it be

R (ACH) ARITY ???

(without) A Companion (of) Honour
