Considering the time, you must be in NZ.

I used to be, but now long-time resident in Canada.
Which island are you on?
My relatives are on both, & in Oz.

BTW; novice? You're giving good answers.
Cheers.

Thanks! I live in Christchurch, S.I. which is an 'interesting' place to be at the moment, in the middle of a massive post-quake rebuild. My late sister was also a long term resident of Canada, in Vancouver then in Nanaimo (where the bars come from!) A big regret is that I never got to visit, but still hope to one day.
Thanks for the encouragement - I am learning a lot from this forum:)

Wow, that's too freaky for words !

My oldest nephew & family just moved back to Christchurch from Oz.
I'm on Vancouver Island about 60 km south of Nanaimo. Love those bars!

Small world, eh? Six degrees?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_degrees_of_separation
I've had several of those, & it seems to be shrinking

Take care, mate.

Amazing, syzygy - you're right, it's a small world! Hope you get a chance to come visit your family in the near future :)

I have visited occasionally over the years, but it gets a bit pricey if you have to go on short notice.
Last time was Dec 2012. Dad had a series of strokes and it was a bit stressful.

The flight now is usually direct from Vancouver. Amazing that sucker can go 12,000 km in one shot.
Oddly enough, have never been to South Island. Maybe next time.

Funny thing. Couldn't find this thread with the Search bar. "kiwikid" returned no results.
I've posted about problems with this function before. They are "working on it".
I'll run some tests.

Hope Christchurch gets back to normal soon.

Cheers, mate.

Ran a battery of tests re the Search function with mixed results.

Most worked OK, except "@search" & your name, as I mentioned earlier.
Other usernames, including mine, appear in the list.
You seem to be invisible. Hey, might be handy !
"kiwikid" & "@kiwikid" return no hits.

So, at least 2 anomalies. Don't mind me. Too many years as a systems programmer / analyst, so have to get to the bottom of this.

Take care.

Re Nanaimo bars:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanaimo_bar

Here's one recipe, but there are many. This is from one of our more popular mags:

Enjoy.

At least there's no controversy about the origin, unlike pavlova, another marvellous treat.

You have to go to South Isalnd if you can. And Stewart Island is the nearest place to paradise on earth I know of.
But if you visited the Catlins, you could not get a phone signal over a huge area. No internet. No mobile messages! Fantastic.

Thanks for the recipe links - I will definitely try them out next baking day.
Yes, South Island is well worth your while to visit, totally different to the North. I'm ashamed to admit I haven't been to Stewart Island, but it is on the bucket list!
