Tales about secret police tailing a Russian aristocrat (9)

I have A-A-T-S-A

I am reasonably certain the letters I have are correct and I am 99% sure the solution is ANASTASIA. Anastasia was a Russian aristocrat and I see the secret police / STASI bit of the clue / solution but how does the rest of the clue produce the missing bit of the solution - ANA-----A? Any ideas?

Chambers gives -ana as relating to sayings or anecdotes and you have final A in clue.

Thank you rambler, jolan and andyc. I thought "ana" was just a suffix to make words like Victoriana, etc. We live and learn - I can now put ANASTASIA in the grid and another crossword bites the dust.
