PEER REVIEW 72

A competition to compose the best cryptic clue, judged by your fellow contestants.

You may enter as many clues as you like and everybody is welcome to have a go.

Please feel free to explain your clue if you think it will help.

Everybody who enters may vote for their favourite clue but no entry means no vote - please include the post number.

The entry with the most votes wins and its composer sets next week's competition.

Please post your clues by 4pm Friday when voting opens - deadline 10pm Friday.

The setter has a deciding vote in the event of a tie and may change the rules if necessary.

The customary online prize will be donated to the winner.

This week's answer to be clued is: GRIFFIN(7)

Good Luck!

Warning: newcomer, strange animal, uses repeated phrase in strong spirit, but couldn't overcome barking, we hear (7)
Expl.:warning, newcomer & strange animal are all meanings of "griffin"; repeated phrase (on guitar) = riff inside gin (strong spirit); Nick Griffin failed to win seat for BNP at Barking. Also, clichés & passion ("rep. phrase in strong spirit") are typical of his speeches. technique.
