Hello there, last one and I am having trouble and/or I have another answer wrong! 38 across Works hard making snare
I have T - I - S so can only think of TOILS or TRIES? Neither of them seems right so I would be very grateful for help.
Thank you.

I may be missing something here, but to me it is a sloppy clue. A toil is a net used for snaring animals. The clue gives "snare", which is singular, yet the answer "toils" is plural. I can see "works hard" for toils, but surely the clue should have snares rather than snare?

I thought the same as you rusty, but then I found this in one of the online dictionaries:
Toil ... (often plural) a net or snare e.g. "the toils of fortune had ensnared him"

Thank you for your contribution, Jazzgirl!
I hoped someone would venture an opinion!
I use Chambers Dictionary and their defiition is;
toil (usually in plural, often figuratively)
noun, a net; a snare or trap.
I could well be adrift here, but I still think the word "snare" in the clue should read "snares"?

Glad you agree, Jazzgirl!
No one else has came up with anything,
so time to let it go, methinks!
