Found this to be very challenging but now have a full grid except for 2a . I have 'TA?EHO?S?' (2 words) and appears to be 'TAKE HORSE' but cannot relate this at all with the clue. Any hints gratefully received.

This is a puzzle I have no idea of but....have found

Sorry both . The clue is as follows~:
' Amount of post, unopened outside Spain (9,two words).'

I should have added that a word in the clue must be topped or tailed before solving.

Ah hence HORSE (A)mount

and Post = (S)Take

Think I now have it chaps. 'Amount' becomes ' Mount' ie get on horse. Still can't see word play though!

[S]TAKE (post unopened) + HORS (outside) + E (Spain)
