Having trouble with 1a and 1d.

1a...Paper used to cover top surface...??C?T
1d..Old money split between footballers...??A?C

I think perhaps that 1d may be FRANC but not sure of the reference to footballers. 1a is a complete mystery though !

1 facet, paper FT with top -ace

1a Facet - FT/Financial Times/paper, with ace/top inside.
1d Franc - FC - football club+ran/split.

Franc (split = ran) between footballers (FC)
