Probably works AGIN* + S[I]T back as in recline!

Yes, thanks- I forgot to include the 'a' in my post, but that's where I got the 'a' in 'giants' from.

The redundant letter in this is 'n'. I don't know if it's in the clue itself or arising from the wordplay (which I think is more likely -dropping the n in NY).
I keep coming back to 'pyro' but have no reasoning!
