Tough one this week! Not sure how these are
parsed. 11 Across:- "Forced to face consumption,
in a way? Weight's lost." (2,3) I have A- B-Y and
presume the answer is "AT BAY"
18 Down:- "Sea-dweller - the Ancient Mariner,
say, after throw of Death's dice?" (7) . Answer is
"ABALONE" but can't see all of it, especially the bit about the Death's dice.

I have been looking at this for some time and cannot find a full parse myself. I can see AB (mariner) and the death's dice could be ' the end of dic(E).

just a thought for you to maybe work with.

Deaths dice refers to Coleridge poem where death and life in death gamble for the soul of the ancient mariner. He is condemned to be constantly ALONE
telling his tale to ward of death.

Hope this helps

spot on harduk.
here is a snippet from the tale.

On board are Death (a skeleton) and the "Night-mare Life-in-Death" (a deathly-pale woman), who are playing dice for the souls of the crew. With a roll of the dice, Death wins the lives of the crew members and Life-in-Death the life of the Mariner, a prize she considers more valuable. Her name is a clue as to the Mariner's fate; he will endure a fate worse than death as punishment for his killing of the albatross.

One by one, all of the crew members die, but the Mariner lives on

Hence 'AB Alone'
