Is there any wordplay to help with 1,21, or do I just need to construct an appropriate example of a 14?

Clue is: It's one of my 14s, but did I perceive something of the others? (3,2,1,3,2,1,3,1,3)

I have two possibilities so far!

I couldn't find any word play, just constructed as you did, not very satisfying.....

cat and car feature in it!

That was my best guess too, Sudokulover. I suppose there are examples of both elsewhere in the crossword.

Surely the wordplay here is that of the three palindromes, one concerns cars and one concerns cats?
